This cabin dates from the 1920s, and old-timers in the area tell us that the family who lived here then also operated a gas pump out front and sold sundries and basic goods from what is now the living room! Old advertising signs from long-ago products are now part of the living room’s décor to highlight this history. The house was once the hub of a 160-acres farm. owned by an early Vinton County family since the late 1800s.
Later, another industrious family raised nine children on the farm, and operated a successful truck garden for many years. (In fact the soil in the lawns is still some of the best you’ll ever see!) Now the little red house is on 5 acres split off about 1970, the hub of Fiddlestix
a complex of unique Guest lodging featuring Appalachian arts and traditions. In fact, if you like some of the accessories, they just might be for sale! For several years, there was even a small café here, called “The Red Cottage.”
